The 26th ACM SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining announced its 2020 Innovation Award, Service Award, Best Paper Award, Rising Star Award, and Test of Time Award, which were established to recognize outstanding researchers and teams that have made contributions to the KDD field such as data science, machine learning, big data and computer science.
A Tsinghua Computer Science led team was awarded the SIGKDD 2020 Test of Time Award for Applied Science, for their paper debut at 2008: ArnetMiner: Extraction and Mining of Academic Social Networks, which was authored by Jie Tang, Jing Zhang, Limin Yao, and Juanzi Li (from Tsinghua) and Li Zhang and Zhong Su (from IBM Research, China). This paper introduces the underlying framework and core technologies in the ArnetMiner system, an author-centric academic search and mining system.

The SIGKDD Test of Time award recognizes outstanding papers from past KDD conferences beyond the last decade that have had an important impact on the data mining research community. Starting in 2020, there will be two Test of Time awards, one for a paper from the research track and a second Test of Time award for a paper from the applied science track (formerly called the industrial track).
Prof. Jie Tang is currently a professor and the associate chair of the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University. His research interests include cognitive graphs, data mining, social networks, and arti?cial intelligence. He has been visiting scholar at Cornell University and Southampton University. He has published more than 300 papers. He served as PC co-chair of WWW’21, CIKM’16, WSDM’15, EiC of IEEE Transactions on Big Data and AI Open Journal. He leads the project AMiner.org, an AI-enabled research network analysis system. He was honored with the UK Royal Society-Newton Advanced Fellowship Award, NSFC for Distinguished Young Scholar, and KDD’18 Service Award.
