The Embassy of Finland in Beijing recently unveiled a set of logo designs - created by a Tsinghua postgraduate - to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Finland-China diplomatic relations.
2020 marks the anniversary, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic the embassy decided to move all celebrations online. Therefore, the need arose for a set of visual image designs in Finnish, Chinese and English, to make them suitable for social media promotion.
The logo in different languages
The logo designs, created by Yang Ling, a Malaysian student at the Department of Visual Communication of Tsinghua University's Academy of Arts and Design, incorporate many classic Finnish elements such as water and lakes, for which the Scandinavian country is renowned. And the blue color and plain design are also Finnish features.
As it happens, water is often used in Chinese culture as a metaphor for the relationship between people, and the logo is thus an apt symbol of the long-term friendship between the two countries.
