Tsinghua student volunteers were honored on June 1 at “Volunteer Night”, an evening party to mark and celebrate the close of 2007 Tsinghua Volunteer Month.
The students honored were the Top Ten Volunteers selected from the Head Team of Zijing Redbud Volunteer Service, which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year. They were commended for their contributions and such volunteer services as care for HIV sufferers, teaching in Hope Primary School, Deathwatch, and the Olympic volunteers. Professor Han Jingyang, Vice Chair Person of Tsinghua’s University Council, awarded the honorary certificates to the students.
The Zijing Redbud Volunteers is the name for the student volunteers at Tsinghua. The Head Team of Zijing Redbud Volunteer Service was founded in 1996 on the base of the former student volunteer service. In subsequent years, Redbud became an important part of campus culture and community service. At present, approximately 10,000 students participate as Tsinghua Zijing volunteers each year, almost one third of all Tsinghua students.
