Dr. James Oblinger, Chancellor of North Carolina State University, visited Tsinghua University on May 28 and delivered a speech titled “Educating Students for the Global Economy: Perspective from a Land-grant University” in the School of Economics and Management.
Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin had a discussion with Chancellor Oblinger prior to the speech. During their talk, Chancellor Oblinger said that North Carolina University will actively encourage and promote the student and scholar exchanges between Tsinghua and North Carolina State University. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin said he hoped cooperation could be enhanced between the two universities and more exchanges made in the future, especially in such fields as environmental science, nano technology, and industrial engineering. Tsinghua Vice President Kang Kejun also attended the talk.
In his speech, Chancellor Oblinger gave an all round introduction to North Carolina State University and answered questions from the audience.
The delegation also visited the Nano Techonology Research Center, the Low Energy Demo Building, the Department of Industrial Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, and the Department of Finance. Along the way, they conducted group discussions with Tsinghua faculty.
