The 2006 HLHL (Ho Leung Ho Lee) Prize awarding ceremony was held in Beijing's Great Hall of People on November 15. Two Tsinghua professors, Li Tibei, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences from the Department of Physics, and Xue Qikun, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences from the Department of Physics, won 2006 HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Progress. There were also three alumni of Tsinghua awarded 2006 HLHL Prize.
Thirty-nine scientists were announced to be the recipients of the HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Progress after strictly sequential evaluation process. The 2006 HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Achievements was vacant for this year and HLHL Prize for Innovation was awarded to twenty scientists for the first time.

Since its set up in 1994, 23 outstanding scientists have won the HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Achievements, 20 of the HLHL Prize for Innovation, and 639 of the HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Progress, among which 23 recipients are from Tsinghua.
