The 2nd Art and Science International Exhibition and Symposium opened at Tsinghua on November 11. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin attended the morning opening ceremony and addressed the audience. Also attending the ceremony were Professor Chen Xi, Chairman of the University Council and Tsinghua Vice President Zhang Fengchang. Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe hosted the opening ceremony. “Tsinghua has been actively promoting the communication between the arts and sciences over the past five years,” said President Gu. He wished the exhibition a success.
The theme of this year’s exhibition is “Art and Science in Contemporary Culture.” Its purpose is to reveal inner relationships between art and science and develop and deepen research into these relationships. The symposium also hopes to promote innovations in communications between the arts and sciences and foster their harmonious development. in it,
Mr. Li Zhengdao, Nobel Prize winner in Physics, and Mr. Wu Gaunzhong, renowned artist and Tsinghua Professor, both delivered speeches at the symposium.
The series activities included symposia and an international forum. A fashion show and exhibition were held on the weekend. The exhibition lasts until November 25.
The 1st Art and Science International Exhibition and Symposium was held in 2001.
