The Zero Point Milestone of China’s highway, designed by Tsinghua Academy of Arts and Design (AAD), was unveiled to the public in Tiananmen Square on September 27th.
Mr. ZHOU Yue, the main designer from Tsinghua AAD, explained that the milestone represents the guardians of the four cardinal directions in the ancient Chinese system of constellations. The four guardians, the Azure Dragon, the White Tiger, the Black Tortoise, and the Vermilion Bird, symbolize the four cardinal directions since Han Dynasty (206 B.C.- 220 A.D.).
