The 2006 EIHICS Regional workshop for Asia was held at Tsinghua University from September 6th to 9th. More than 100 experts in international criminal law participated in the workshop.
Topics covered at the workshop included the past and future of the international justice, legal and practical challenges for the defense in war crimes trials, and the role of international criminal courts in an emerging system of international justice.
H.E. Judge Cao Jianming, First Vice-President of the Supreme People's Court, China, H.E. Judge Fausto Pocar, President of the ICTY, H.E. Judge Erik Mosé, President of the ICTR, H.E. Judge René Blattmann, Vice-President of the ICC, H.E. Judge Liu Daqun, ICTY, and H.E. Judge O-Gon Kwon, ICTY, and Prof. Yves Mény, President of European University Institute attended the workshop.

The organization of the Workshop was undertaken jointly by the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute, Florence, Italy, through its ETHICS (i.e. the European Training in Higher International Criminal Sciences Project), and Tsinghua University's Law School, Beijing, China, in collaboration with the Chinese Society of International Law.
Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe spoke with the guests and gave them an introduction to Tsinghua University prior to the workshop.
