An opening ceremony was held for the new graduate students of 2006 on September 1.
Tsinghua President Gu Binglin, University Council Chairman Chen Xi, Vice President He Jiankun, and other senior administrators attended the gathering for the more than 4,000 incoming students.
In his welcoming address, President Gu gave congratulations to the seated students. He encouraged the students to make clear their academic direction, carry forward the spirit of science, develop their innovative spirit, improve the academic capability, bear in mind the university motto of “Rigor, Diligence, Veracity, and Creativity,” and work hard in their research and studies.
Tsinghua University registered 4,039 new graduate students on August 30, 2006.
