The Global Engineering Excellence Project held workshop at Tsinghua University on June 28th to 30th. Nearly 20 engineering education specialists from six countries' eight universities attended the meeting. Based on the previous research work, some common understanding and suggestions on global engineering education have been made in the workshop to meet the global challenge. The final research result will be published in November 2006 in Germany.
Tsinghua University's Institute of Education Research represented Tsinghua to take part in this research program. Vice-President GONG Ke and XIE Weihe from Tsinghua attended the workshop and contributed speeches respectively.
The Global Engineering Excellence initiative, launched in October 2005, was participated by eight international prestigious universities, including Technische Universitat Darmstadt from Germany , Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule Zurich from Switzerland, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Georgia Institute of Technology from USA , Universidade de Sao Paulo from Brazil , University of Tokyo from Japan , Shanghai Jiao Tong University , and Tsinghua University from China . The objective is to conduct worldwide comparison research on engineering education tackling with the challenge of globalization and to propose development strategies and measures in the area.
