Dr. James W. Owens, Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar Inc., visited Tsinghua on March 28 and delivered a speech on “Open Trade.”
Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe met and talked with Dr. Owens, giving an introduction of the university’s recent development. The two also exchanged ideas on education and international cooperation.
During the speech, held in the main building, Dr. Owens called on the United States and China to keep trade relations between the two nations “positive” and “constructive.”
Dr. Owens first gave a brief overview of Caterpillar’s history and presence in China, noting that Caterpillar was very supportive of free and open trade and investment with China.
“Caterpillar will continue to push for positive, constructive policies that benefit both our countries — and the world,” Dr. Owens said. He answered several questions from the students after the speech.
Caterpillar Inc. is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines
Dr. Owens also paid visits to the Department of Automotive Engineering and the School of Economics and Management.
