Prof. CHU and Vice President GONG
Prof. GONG Ke, Vice President of Tsinghua University and director of Tsinghua National Lab for Informational Science and Technology, China, visited Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, USA, on March 1.
Prof. Steve CHU, director of LBNL, met and had a talk with Prof. GONG. During the talks, Prof. Steve CHU gave an outline of LBNL, including its good relations with universities and its researchers.
“It is necessary to support a few selected scientists to do free studies according to their interests,” Dr. CHU said. He also noted that besides having excellent scientists to be the division leaders and letting them have the power to control resources, the most important issue is to have good “young kids”, who don’t know what is impossible, to work creatively in the lab.
After the talk, Gong paid visits to the division of Computing Science Research and the division of Information Technology.
