Professor Xue Qikun has been chosen as a new member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), according to the announcement of CAS December 16.
Xue Qikun is a now a professor in the physics department.
The election of new members of CAS is conducted biennially. A total of 51 prominent Chinese scientists have been elected CAS members in 2005. CAS membership, a lifetime tenure conferred by the State, is the highest academic title in science and technology circles in China.
To date, Tsinghua has 35 members in the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
