Nobel Prize recipient Professor Richard R. Ernst of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) recently presented an illustrated lecture entitled “Fascinating Tibetan Painting Art, Age Determination and Pigment Studies” to Tsinghua faculty and students.
In the lecture, he applied scientific principles of chemical analysis to the accurate dating and authentication of ancient Tibetan paintings. For his innovative applications of science to art, Professor Ernst received the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1991. He is currently chairman of the Research Committee of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich).
