A large-scale academic forum on the subjects of nanotechnology and biology brought together a delegation of 44 professors and associate professors from Tokyo Institute of Technology with a group of over 40 professors and associate professors from Tsinghua's Dept. of Chemical Engineering, Dept. of Biological Science and Biotechnology, Dept. of Materials Science Engineering, and the School of Medicine of Tsinghua University on March 22.
This is the first significant academic exchange between the teachers of the two universities since the Tsinghua-Tokyo Institute of Technology Graduate Joint-training Program was initiated in September of 2004. The Program is committed to fostering high-level professionals who can make proficient use of three languages, namely, Chinese, English, and Japanese.
At present, the Program has offered nanotechnology and biology as its two main subjects for discussion. Other subjects still in the preparation stage are humanities, public management, and law.
“This academic forum aims at not only promoting the cooperation between the two universities in the Graduate Joint-training Program, but also pushing forward the academic exchange and research cooperation between the two sides,” said Professor Riichiro Chujo, who is currently Chief of the Tokyo Institute of Technology Office in Beijing .
Tokyo Institute of Technology is the first Japanese university cooperating with Tsinghua University in the graduate joint-training program. It is a high-standard research-oriented university of science and technology, and especially distinguished for its research in such fields as nanotechnology and biology.
