On February 21st, the spring semester officially began at Tsinghua SIGS. Due to current COVID-19 control measures in Shenzhen, full student return to campus has been postponed. Tsinghua SIGS leadership, faculty, and staff have been working to ensure a smooth start to the semester. As the new semester begins, classes will be held both online and offline.
Before the beginning of the semester, on February 15th, Deputy Director of the Education Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality Zhao Li, along with SIGS Executive Dean Gao Hong, CPC Committee Secretary Wu Xiaofeng, and Dean’s Assistant Song Yan, visited laboratories, classrooms, and student dorms to inspect COVID-19 control measures, campus safety, and teaching plans for the new semester. They also gave instructions to staff on how to proceed with epidemic prevention measures and preparations for the new semester.

Education Bureau inspection
On February 17th, CPC Committee Secretary Wu Xiaofeng, Associate Dean Zhang Chuanjie, and Dean’s Assistant Song Yan led separate groups to inspect classrooms, dining halls, and dormitories to make sure COVID-19 control and sanitation measures were put into place and that the facilities were ready for the next semester in accordance with the latest relevant municipal regulations.

New semester preparations
This semester, 243 courses will be offered at Tsinghua SIGS. One-hundred and forty courses will start this week. On the first day of classes, thirty-one courses will begin with seven online and 24 hybrid courses.

Simultaneous online/offline classes
On the morning of February 21st, 2022, Associate Dean Zuo Jian'e, along with Director He Yonghong and Deputy Director Yang Gedan from the Office of Academic Affairs and staff from the Information and Data Services Center, visited several classrooms in the Information Building and Building C to observe and make sure the facilities and classroom equipment were in working order.

Starting on February 15th, the Information and Data Services Center began testing teaching equipment and the online learning system to ensure a smooth transition into online teaching and learning. The Office of Academic Affairs organized trainings for professors from February 17th to February 20th on online teaching, hybrid teaching, and how to rehearse and try out their classes. With the help of the Office of Academic Affairs, the Information Data and Services Center, and teaching assistants, professors were familiar with the teaching software and had tested their equipment for the first day of teaching.
